WHY INSTAGRAM [IS NOT] RUINING TRAVEL

I wanted to talk about something that has been on my mind lately. That is, the fact that social media is seen as such a negative change in our generation and future generations. Specifically, how drastically it has changed the way people travel. Im gonna go out on a limb here and say its time to embrace change. According to many articles i've read online travel is completely ruined. One of them I listed below:

HOW THE INTERNET (AND SOCIAL MEDIA) RUINED TRAVEL

But, our world is always evolving and changing drastically. Its time to get with the times yo. Let's talk about why social media, specifically Instagram is NOT ruining travel and why its enhancing it. I want to focus on the positives, because we are not going to go back to the days of traveling without being immersed in updating our friends with where were at. Those days are LONG gone. It's time to look forward. As with any change, a lot of people have a hard time with it.

The internet and social media are only ENHANCING travel and completely changing the way we view the world. Let's try and take it in a more positive light.

Instagram immerses ourselves in a moment even more so.

The fact that everyone now owns a smartphone and has a decent camera in their pocket at all times pretty much makes everyone a photographer. From my perspective as a professional photographer, I always have my camera out. Even my iPhone camera when I want to capture something I see that is catching my eye but don't have my DSLR with me. When I am visiting or experiencing a new a place I am constantly searching for the beauty. Searching for that perfect shot. It allows me to find the small details of a moment and appreciate them. Like the way the sun is shining on the wispy grass, or how blue the ocean looks against the black rocks. It not only gets my attention even more but it gets to fully dive into a place and appreciate all it has to offer.

Many people get annoyed by the fact that people have to take photos of everything they are doing but I really believe it gets us more involved in the experience. Then we are able to take our friends and family with us on our journey even when they can't come. It brings people together, the fact that we are all in the same place enjoying how marvelous it is. I always run into tons of photographers and people asking us to take photos of them and it makes me more happy than anything.

Social media encourages more people to travel.

I asked my best friend Sierra who has lived all over the world and traveled to so many places about this subject and she mentioned that travel encourages more people to do it. The inspiration we see every day..the beautiful photos. It encourages those who may have never wanted to travel before, become more interested in it. This is a good thing because it helps the travel industries, it helps the economy in other places, and it helps people learn compassion and understanding for what goes on in the world. It helps you grow and discover who you are as a person. Which brings me to my next point.

It gets more people aware of the world around them.

The fact that so many people are interested in seeing the world, now more than ever..makes people more aware of what is going on in the world. We can use social media and Instagram as a place to share a message and to spread ideas on how to be more compassionate human beings. On how we can help preserve these beautiful places, and how we can teach people to protect the environment and respect other cultures. If we stay in one place, we get stuck in a bubble.

While there are many negatives about social media and the internet exposing all of the "secret spots" it also reminds us that we can see the positives in the situation and how we can use it to benefit others and create more good in the world. Don't feel embarrassed to take picutures or share your adventures with your friends. Its not ruining travel. Its only making it more fun and engages everyone in the process. Its bringing people together to appreciate the beauty of the world.

Of course, as always; lets remember to keep places the way we found them so that others can enjoy it too. :)

Do you think social media is ruining travel or is it enhancing it?
